Annie Guthrie, a Tucson writer and jeweler, is under the scanner after her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing on January 31st. According to authorities, Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Who was the last person to see Nancy Guthrie?
It was Annie Guthrie’s husband Tommaso Cioni who was said to be the last person to see Nancy before she disappeared. Since the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of American journalist and television host Savannah Guthrie, authorities are investigating all angles, including abduction.
Annie Guthrie, who lives in Tucson’s affluent Catalina Foothills neighborhood, is among one of Nancy’s three children. Tommaso Cioni dropped his mother-in-law off at her home. But authorities believe Nancy was taken from her residence against her will. The University of Arizona, Poetry Center describes Annie Guthrie as a writer and jewelry maker from Tucson. “Guthrie is the author of a book on jewelry design with Chronicle Books and a book of poems The Good Dark with Tupelo Press,” it said.
As part of the investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) visited Annie Guthrie’s residence. In a post on X, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said, “At the request of the Guthrie family, PCSD will maintain a presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence for security purposes. Media and the public are reminded to obey all traffic and private property laws. No trespassing is permitted on Guthrie property. Violations are subject to enforcement.”
Police said no suspects, persons of interest or vehicles have yet been identified, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers are demanding a $6 million ransom
While Annie Guthrie and her husband were in the spotlight, the Guthrie family received an alleged ransom demanding $6 million for the octogenarian’s return. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information related to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
