‘What if we moved to a tier 2 city?’: Couple compares benefits of smaller cities after moving to Bengaluru for better salary | Today’s news

Several people across the country are moving to Bengaluru for job opportunities. Between them, the corporate couple opened up about the pros and cons of moving to Bengaluru. They also considered the benefits of moving back to their hometown, a thought they said still lingers in their minds.

Bengaluru vs Tier 2 Cities

The user @radhi.and.ekansh shared on Instagram that he initially moved to Bengaluru for better pay and life. “We often discuss what if we moved to a tier 2 city? When we first moved to Bangalore, it felt like a dream. Better jobs, bigger salaries and a life we probably wouldn’t have built in our hometown. We’re grateful for every bit of it,” the couple shared.

However, as time went by, things started to change for the couple. They pointed out how their priorities had changed, from missing their parents to spending too much in Bengaluru. They believed that small towns could offer something even greater than India’s Silicon Valley – peace.

“But after a few years, the things we value start to change. We miss our parents living close by, a life away from technology and corporations, and we wonder if every plan has to include transportation, reservations, and exorbitant expenses. Suddenly, a smaller town doesn’t feel small anymore. It’s peaceful,” the video added.

“But can we really build the same careers, income and independence in a Tier 2 city?”

Urging others to share their thoughts on the issue, they also said: “We’re confused. Is the grass always greener on the other side?”

Netizens react

Responding to the video, the user agreed in the comments, saying: “The grass is always greener on the other side. But the same thing.”

“I’m confused too, but sometimes I feel like I want freedom and opportunities and sometimes peace. So I can’t choose between the two. But if someone is sure about things, he won’t compromise health and peace, or money and freedom along with it. Then it might be a bit clear. But both choices have their pros and cons. So we should clarify what the basics are, that we won’t compromise (sic),” another user added.

Someone else also wrote: “Our conclusion on the topic: As we age we need better infrastructure for health, delivery, travel, security, school, airport which you will have by default in a Tier-1 city. For career growth you must live in Mecca for your domain eg Bangalore for tech, Mumbai for finance etc. If you want peace of mind you can stay as AQ where it is better to live outside the city and travel green. to metro or travel by road in odd hours of traffic and make better use of travel time by learning something along the way (sic).”

The same user also pointed out how Pune can be a better alternative: “IT’S EXACTLY HOW WE LIVE IN PUNE WORKING AS A CORPORATE COUPLE IN TECH. Why Pune? Because we love the hills and the slow life it offers at a very affordable price. We left Bangalore 10 years ago (sic).”
