Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, calling it a “victory for democracy” and credited weeks of continuous protests led by students and volunteers as the result.
Addressing supporters from the protest stage at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Dipke said the resignation challenged the belief that ministers in the current government would not resign.
“What do you say… There is no resignation from this government. If there is a world, there is no need to resign,” he said before announcing to the crowd, “We have done it. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned.”

“We have two more requests”
Welcoming the minister’s resignation, Dipke said the movement would continue and outlined two key demands that he said remained unresolved.
“There is no need to worry. This is a democracy. He has resigned, but we have two more demands. We will not go like this. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of the children who committed suicide should be compensated one million rupees.”
He continued: “They should get it. One million rupees compensation to all those families. And secondly these police scumbags who acted on the 20th. For that the policemen should be dealt with. Remember, don’t play with cockroaches.”

‘Don’t make me a hero’
Later, speaking to the media, Dipke urged his supporters not to turn the political development into a personality-driven victory.
He warned against centering the movement around one individual and said the focus should be on students and the larger issues around exam transparency.
“I want to say something very important. Don’t make me a hero because Dharmendra Pradhan resigned today. Don’t make this mistake. Don’t make me a hero because of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The country was destroyed because they made one man a hero,” Dipke said.
He stressed that the movement should continue to focus on systemic reforms, examination transparency and the broader concerns raised by students across the country.
‘This is the first goal’
Dipke also thanked the students and volunteers who stayed at the protest site for more than a month and termed Pradhan’s resignation as just the beginning of the campaign.
“This is the first goal. We will not stop here. This is just the beginning. I salute all the students, all the volunteers who have been sitting here for the last 36 days,” he said.

Calling the development a milestone for the movement, he added, “It is a victory for the Constitution of India. It is a victory for the Indian people.”
Soon after the resignation was announced, Dipke, CJP leaders and protesters celebrated at Jantar Mantar. Similar celebrations were also reported among young protesters in Bengaluru and Chennai.
Pradhan says he resigned in the interest of the students
Earlier on Saturday, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his resignation letter shared on X, Pradhan said he took the decision to ensure that the situation arising out of the protests over alleged irregularities in the investigation was not misused by “anti-national forces”.
“The situation that occurred at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the country should not be exploited by anti-national forces. The unity of the country must remain intact. The future of every student in India should not be entangled in legal complications,” he wrote.
Pradhan said he decided to resign in the greater interest of the students and the nation.
His resignation came after a month-long agitation at Jantar Mantar led by the Cockroach Janata Party and activist Sonam Wangchuk, who went on a 26-day hunger strike. The protests gained momentum on July 20 with the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, which was met with police action.
