Wayanad disaster: Amit Shah speaks to Kerala CM, extends support to Centre

A day after a debris slide near the Kalladi tunnel project site in Wayanad claimed three lives, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke to Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan and extended all support to the state government’s Rescue, Relief and Rehabilitation Centre.

A statement issued by the chief minister’s office said the Union minister spoke to the chief minister on phone and took stock of the situation and promised all necessary help from the central government.

Mr. Shah expressed appreciation for the measures taken by the state government so far. The Home Secretary also urged the Chief Minister to initiate a high-level inquiry into the tragedy. In response, the chief minister informed him that the state cabinet, which met on Wednesday, had already approved a high-level inquiry, the statement said.
