Kerala rains: Wayanad among nine districts on orange alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) issued an orange alert for nine districts in Kerala, including Wayanad, warning of intense heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours.
Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki have been placed under high rainfall status, while a yellow alert has been issued for Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta for isolated heavy rains.
A coastal trough, which runs along the west coast of the country and extends up to central Kerala, is likely to produce heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday as well, according to the IMD.
