Medical department officials check whether water could be a source of infection for one of the recently reported primary amém meningoencephalitis (PAM) in the Kozhikode district.
Currently, three people-three-year-olds and a forty-year-old man from Kozhikode and an eleven-year-old child from Chelari, Malappuram-, are based on Pam’s treatment in the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode. A three -month -old child is reportedly in a critical condition. A nine -year -old Damarassery native had previously died of infection. Two of her siblings are observed in the hospital with symptoms similar to fever.
Meanwhile, a few days ago the presence of Naegleria fowleri, an organism causing infection, a few days ago was detected. This made health officials suspicious that the hole could be a source of infection except for the water with a pond. However, the head official said on Thursday (August 21, 2025) that such organisms usually occur in most holes and ponds. In addition, the tension of the body found in the child’s body was different from the trunk found in the well. However, as long as no other source of infection is identified, the suspicion remains at the well, the official said. The body could enter the body of the child during swimming, because some people reportedly monitored the practice of dripping water into the baby’s noses at that time, he added.
