RCB vs KKR: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD
Virat Kohli could hardly have scripted a more memorable night for his IPL milestone as he smashed a scintillating century to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in Raipur. The evening was already special for Kohli, who earlier became the most capped player in IPL history after passing the legendary MS Dhoni.
As if that wasn’t enough, Kohli added another scintillating milestone by surpassing Chris Gayle to become the fastest batsman to 14,000 T20 runs before sealing a dream night with a breathtaking 58-ball century.
Kohli survived an early scare when he was dropped for 21 by Rovman Powell and the reprieve proved costly for KKR as the RCB talisman unleashed a sensational knock full of authority and flair to propel his side to the top of the points table.
However, for the Knight Riders, the defeat leaves them in a difficult position to make it to the last three league games. Ajinkya Rahane’s men arrived on the back of four consecutive wins and appeared to be gaining momentum at the perfect time, but Kohli’s brilliance has now left them needing something special to keep their play-off hopes alive.
RAGHUVANSHI ARMS KOLKATA
After being asked to bat first after a delayed start due to the wet ground, the Knight Riders got off to a positive start. Finn Allen (17), fresh from his century against Delhi Capitals, looked dangerous again when he faced fellow New Zealander Jacob Duffy early in the innings.
However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave RCB the breakthrough they desperately needed as he dismissed the aggressive opener.
Ajinkya Rahane got off to a smooth start, scoring 19 before Josh Hazlewood cut short his stay at the crease. After Rahane’s dismissal, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green leveled the innings with an important partnership of 68 runs for the third wicket.
The duo rotated the strike well and kept the score moving in the middle overs. Just when it looked like they were ready to step up, Rasikh Salam Dar forced Green into a shot fake. Green, who started the lineup, retired after getting the 32nd.
With Green back in the pavilion, Rinku Singh joined Raghuvanshi in the middle and the pair ensured that the Knight Riders finished at 192 for four. Raghuvanshi produced his best knock of the season, scoring a composed 71 off 46 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes. He reached his fifty in just 32 balls and played till the very end before being run out at non-striker’s end in the final over as he attempted a second run.
THE RINK IS STILL BURNING
Meanwhile, Rinku continued his impressive run of form with another impressive innings. He ensured that RCB did not fight their way back into the competition after Green’s dismissal. Rinku, with confidence and poise, took command of the death and consistently found boundaries at crucial moments.
Interestingly, in the final over, he denied Raghuvanshi a strike immediately after smashing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a six, looking to maximize scoring opportunities. Rinku eventually remained unbeaten on 49 off 29 balls, an innings full of three fours and two sixes.
While he narrowly missed out on a half-century after Raghuvanshi failed to make his mark, his knock provided the finishing touches to KKR’s innings.
