
With a pass rate of 95.16%, Telangana girls outshone boys who scored 89.51% in the Senior School Certificate (Class 12) final examination results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday.
Telangana recorded an overall pass percentage of 92.24% with 11,426 candidates appearing for the exam. Last year it was 99.73%. The Chennai region, under which Telangana falls, scored 93.84%, second only to the Trivandrum region at 95.62%, the highest among the country’s 22 regions.
For Telangana, the drop in pass rates was also significant for girls and boys compared to last year’s 99.80% and 99.66% respectively.
A total of 1,768,968 candidates appeared for the exams held from February 17 to April 10 across the country and 85.20% of candidates passed, down from 88.39% last year.
State-wise, Lakshadweep recorded 100% pass rate with 14 students, followed by Goa (96.38%), Kerala (95.61%) and Tamil Nadu (95.25%).
According to the CBSE data for Telangana, the pass percentage for general candidates was 94.80 (5,160 candidates), for SC candidates it was 88.76% (813), for ST community it was 88.39% (1,736) and for OBC candidates it was 91.20% (2,830%). The performance of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (99.08%) was the best followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas (98.66%).
The CBSE said that the supplementary examinations will be held on July 15 as a one-day exam for candidates who want to improve their performance in only one subject and for compartmentalized candidates, including those from the previous year.
In Hyderabad, several independent schools claimed pass percentage, including Jubilee Hills Public School, Hyderabad Public School in Ramanthapur and Glendale Academy. They said the school’s consistent academic excellence, holistic development, value-based learning environment and commitment helped achieve the results.
