
The University of Nigeria faced strong criticism after the viral video revealed its new policy. The video showed that the students touched to check to see if they wear bras before entering the exam.
The incident occurred at the University of Olabis Onabanjo, Ogun. The university has not yet issued a statement.
The leaders’ leaders stated that the rule was part of the dressing code to avoid distraction, according to the BBC. However, the leader agreed that better methods were needed.
Many people called the event outdated and unfair to women. They even compared it with a sexual attack. According to a network for human rights, students could take legal steps for violating their rights.
“The unwavering touch on another person’s body is a violation and can lead to legal steps. The university is incorrect to accept this method to reduce rude dress (sic),” said Haruna Ayagi BBC.
The student said the BBC that their university, though not religious, is governed by a strict dressing code. According to her, regular practice for employees is to check students’ clothes.
University policy for indecent dressing
The President of the Student Department of Muizz Olazza, also known as President Mao, shared a film by the University Police and wrote: “No bra. No entry is a new policy at the University of Olabis Onabanjo.”
“OU promotes the policy of the dressing code aimed at maintaining a respectable and scattered environment without distraction and encouraging students to dress modestly and in accordance with the values of the institution,” he added.
One of the political provisions defines indecent dressing by disabling “any bandage of any student who decreases, disappears or bulges down or decreases to a lower level to show under wear (sagging)”.
The official dressing code prohibits a bandage that “shows the sensitive parts of the student’s body” and “is transparent or too tight or too modest or short”.
This policy also prohibits “any dressing of any student who either reveals or partially reveals or reveals the nudity of the student”
“Any bandage is also forbidden that is able to produce the same or opposite sex to want from a student.”
