Violent protests at Lovely Professional University (LPU) have reportedly turned into looting. It happened at the university’s Uni Mall. Expensive electronics, phones and cash were stolen.

Sony PlayStation 5 consoles were among the items taken. Laptops, smartphones and electronic accessories also quickly disappeared. Luxury perfumes were looted from several stores. Some traders estimated losses in the order of tens of millions.

Viral videos showed people taking PS5 consoles away. The PS5 Slim Disc Edition usually stands around ₹55,000. Even customers’ phones left for repair were allegedly stolen.

Interestingly, the bookstore inside the Uni Mall remained completely untouched. An eyewitness told The Lallantop that the books were deemed useless. They only took what they thought was really useful.

History coach Siddharth shared videos of the looting on social media.

“Some videos from the LPU protest where the entire mall was looted. Shoes, gadgets, food, clothes, accessories, everything was taken. Ironically, the bookstores were not even touched. They didn’t even tear the posters of those stores,” he wrote.

One sales manager reported huge financial losses. Around ₹6-7 million in cash disappeared from the counter. The total loss at the store was calculated at ₹80-90 lakh, according to India Today. This included inventory worth approx ₹70-80 million.

Perfumes are worth it ₹Between 15,000 and 17,000 were also stolen. Brands such as Prada and Armani were reportedly taken. The retailer confirmed that these premium products have disappeared along with other merchandise.

Uni Mall is a multi-storey shopping complex inside the LPU campus. Various shops, restaurants and stationery stores are regularly located here. The riots occurred on the night of September 26-27.

Viral videos on social media showed masked people looting shops. Students claim that outsiders are responsible for this violence.

The LPU began examining CCTV footage after the incident. About 30-40 students are now under scrutiny. It is not confirmed if all the robbers were actually students.

However, some videos suggest that students were involved. One man said there was “free shopping” going on during the looting.

The looting followed protests over allegations of sexual assault. These accusations concerned a female student at LPU. The university denied the allegations. The police registered the case and formed an investigation team.
