Vijay and Ajith Kumar reunite at Silverstone; fans call it “the biggest day for Tamil cinema”
Tamil superstars Ajith Kumar and Vijay greeted fans and shared a warm hug at Silverstone in Northampton, UK on Saturday (September 12, 2026). Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, attended the announcement of the Michelin Le Mans Cup, which Ajith participated in.
In an exciting moment for Tamil cinema fans, Ajith Kumar and Vijay – two of the industry’s biggest stars – came together on Saturday (September 12, 2026) evening at Silverstone in Northampton, UK. Despite their 34-year long journey as colleagues in the film field, the two superstars have not shared a public scene for a long time.
Vijay met Ajith at the Michelin Le Mans Cup at the Silverstone circuit. Ajith, who recently rekindled his passion for racing, was scheduled to participate in the race. Vijay, on his international tour as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, was at the venue to flag off the race.
Ajith and Vijay greeted their enthusiastic fans before sharing a warm hug. Chants of ‘Thala’ and ‘Thalapatie’ – popular nicknames for the stars – echoed through the venue as they stepped out of the car towards the sea of paparazzi. Dressed in a muted tan jacket, Vijay created a hilarious moment by playfully running towards Ajith, who was in a racing suit, to hug him.

Social media has been abuzz with anticipation ever since the two stars were confirmed to meet. For more than two decades, Ajith and Vijay have been considered the two biggest stars and fiercest rivals in Tamil cinema. With their fanbases constantly vying for supremacy, even a rare moment of the two sharing the same picture was enough to send the internet into a frenzy.
Even before the reunion, Ajith added to the euphoria by saying that he was happy to see Vijay taking steps to promote the development of motor sports in India. “I thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. C. Joseph Vijay for taking time off to visit us at Silverstone. We have been colleagues in the film industry for 34 years and I am happy for him that he is now the Chief Minister-elect.”
Ajith, who entered the race after finishing eighth in the qualifying round, asked the fans not to create chaos at the venue. He thanked the fans for their support but warned them to remain disciplined. Several fans from across India witnessed the qualifying round and cheered for Ajith, even as a commentator described the actor as “Tom Cruise’s Silver Head”. In the stands of the circuit, fans also waved posters of Vijay as they waited for the decisive moment.
