Vigilance officials seized 423 bags of PDS rice in Rajamahendravaram

Security and revenue officials on Saturday (September 5, 2026) impounded a truck loaded with 21.15 tonnes of rice supplied through the Public Distribution System while it was on its way from Vijayawada to Rajamahendravaram town.

In an official statement, East Godavari District Joint Collector Y. Megha Swaroop said that rice supplied through PDS was illegally transported from Vijayawada to Rajamahendravaram town. The lorry was impounded at Gammon Bridge.

“We have seized 423 bags of PDS rice and arrested two persons identified as Penki Rambabu and driver Balaswamy. A case has been registered under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955,” said Mr. Megha Swaroop. The investigation was started by the city police III.
