Veteran journalist, PTI’s former Odisha bureau chief Sarat Chandra passed away

Veteran journalist and former Odisha press fund chief Sarat Chandra Dash passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Friday (June 26, 2026).

83-year-old Dash is survived by two sons and two daughters. He reported for PTI for 42 years before retiring in 2003. Dash worked in PTI offices in Mumbai and New Delhi. He suffered from a long-term illness.

His understanding of politics in Odisha combined with balanced and insightful reporting has won him laurels. With Odisha prone to natural calamities, the former PTI bureau chief has often been at the helm of reporting under adverse conditions.

Leaders and journalists paid their last respects to the departed soul. “I am saddened to learn of the demise of eminent journalist and former PTI office chief in Odisha Sarat Chandra Dash. He was always admired for his high values, impartial reporting and professional integrity throughout his long career as a journalist,” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.

Former Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik also condoled the death saying, “he earned numerous accolades for his long career in journalism. He was a well-known and respected figure in the Odisha media world.”
