Varun Chakaravarthy has knocked Afghanistan out of the T20I series

Varun Chakravarthy (BCCI photo) NEW DELHI: Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan on Monday. The spinner picked up the injury after the first match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, which India won by 7 wickets. The cause of the injury remains unclear.“Yes, Varun has been ruled out. He is out of the series. It is a fresh injury,” a BCCI source told TimesofIndia.com.The injury comes as a blow to Chakaravarthy and India. He recently recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the white-ball matches in England in July. In the first T20I against Afghanistan, the 35-year-old picked up the wicket and conceded just 16 runs in his four overs.Last week, Varun spoke about his injury concerns to this branch and said, “This is actually my first ever muscle injury. So all my injuries were impact injuries and other accidents that happened on the field,” he said.Chakaravarthy’s injury would once again focus on the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE), which has come under the scanner with frequent player injuries.The fresh injury leaves Chakaravarthy in doubt for the Asian Games in Japan, which begin on September 19.
