BRICS Summit: Delhi police officer suspended after flaunting gun and sniper rifle video on Instagram

A Delhi police constable deployed for the BRICS summit held in the national capital recently was investigated by the ministry and later suspended after he posted videos on Instagram flaunting firearms and a sniper rifle, ThePrint reported.

The constable, identified as Deepak Bangar, has been posting videos of firearms from his security post on Instagram for days, sparking backlash from social media users. The clips, which were posted from the now-blocked Instagram account @jaat.bangar.0143, were noticed by the police, prompting an investigation.

In one of the videos, Bangar appears dressed in civilian clothes, wearing his BRICS Summit 2026 ID card and holding a service pistol. The footage also shows the hotel area and its surroundings.

The second video shows him using a sniper rifle scope from a terrace while several nearby VVIP buildings are seen in the background.

The footage sparked debate on social media, with users questioning why such videos were uploaded and shared while Bangar was assigned to a sensitive security operation.

Following the controversy, the Delhi Police removed Bangar from his BRICS duties and suspended him with immediate effect. He was subsequently sent back to the North West District.

“With serious cognizance of disciplinary misconduct, he has been removed from BRICS service and suspended with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances under which the videos were recorded and recorded. Further disciplinary action will be taken as per rules,” a senior police officer told ThePrint.

Senior police officers said Bangar was earlier deployed in and around five-star hotels and other key places associated with guests attending the BRICS summit.

South African delegate ₹3 million in cash was left in the taxi by the Delhi Police

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police found a bag of a South African BRICS delegate containing a bicycle ₹3 lakh in Indian and US currency from a taxi within 35 minutes of receiving information about his disappearance and returning it to him just before his scheduled departure, PTI reported.

The delegate visited a mall in Gurugram and returned to a hotel in central Delhi when he realized his small bag of cash was missing.

Information about the missing bag was received at 7:10 pm after which the police immediately formed teams to trace the taxi in which the delegate was travelling, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma told PTI.
