Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to rewrite the script of IPL 2026. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener added another record to his growing list by becoming the fastest player to reach 400 runs in an IPL season during their clash with Punjab Kings on April 28.
Sooryavanshi got there in just 167 balls, surpassing the likes of Andre Russell and Abhishek Sharma, who had previously topped the list.

He again set the tone with a blistering 43 off just 16 balls to give Rajasthan Royals the perfect start in their steep chase of 223 runs. By the time he was dismissed in the fourth over, RR were already racing to 51, putting Punjab on the back foot immediately.
That start proved crucial as RR went on to chase down the target in 19.2 overs and handed PBKS their first defeat of the season with a six-wicket win in Mullanpur.
WHICH IPL RECORD DID VAIBHAV SOORYAVANSHI BREAK?
Sooryavanshi became the fastest batsman to reach 400 runs in an IPL season in terms of the number of balls it was achieved in just 167 deliveries.
Fastest to 400 runs in an IPL season (by balls):
- 167 – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (2026)
- 188 – Andre Russell (2019)
- 195 – Abhishek Sharma (2024)
- 197 – Nicholas Pooran (2025)
- 200 – Glenn Maxwell (2014)
The record underlines the sheer pace at which the teenager has scored this season. With over 400 runs already and a strike tally well over 200, he has not only been consistent but tireless as well.
The knock also helped him win the Orange Cap, taking him ahead in the race for the most runs this season.
SOORYAVANSHI SET THE TONE IN RR CHASE
Chasing 223, RR needed a strong start and got exactly that. Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal struck from the first over to take RR past 50 in four overs.
Jaiswal complemented him with a fluent 51 off 27 balls, ensuring that the momentum did not dip after Sooryavanshi’s dismissal. The middle order, led by Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey, then put together a decisive 77 runs to take RR home.
Earlier, Marcus Stoinis powered PBKS to 222 for 4 with a stunning 62 not out from just 22 balls, but it wasn’t enough on a night when RR batted throughout.
‘AWESOME BAT WITH HIM’: JAISWAL ON VAIBHAV
Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach has already won him admirers across the cricketing world, including former players like Ravichandran Ashwin.
His opening match partner Jaiswal also spoke about the experience of batting alongside him after the match.
“Obviously, it’s amazing. I’ve really enjoyed batting with him and he’s playing amazing. So it’s always, I’m always happy when I see him hitting the ball from the other end,” Jaiswal said.
“I don’t think I’m older. I’m still very young, but of course the way he is, and he’s quite young. So, frankly, I don’t know what to say about that,” he added.
At just 15, Sooryavanshi continues to push boundaries with every outing. And if IPL 2026 has shown anything so far, it’s that his rise is just beginning.
