Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was back in the news but this time for a different reason. During the RR vs DC encounter in Jaipur, the young prodigy did not leave his mark in the game and was dismissed for four runs off two balls. In fact, it was his release and Kyle Jamieson’s celebration that grabbed the headlines.
A deadly yorker from the DC pacer spelled the end of Sooryavanshi and He sent the 15-year-old youngster fiery which was quickly slammed by fans and critics. Jamieson found that he had been warned by the IPL and he also awarded a demerit point for his trouble.
But it actually kind of showed Sooryavanshi’s standing in the game or at least the IPL at the moment. This kind of celebration has been reserved for the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni in the past and the RR star now finds himself in the same group.
After the match, RR batting coach Vikram Rathour saw no problem with the way Jamieson celebrated and felt it was actually a compliment to Sooryavanshi. Rathour said the way the celebration was played actually showed how Sooryavanshi had started to strike fear into the bowlers.
“Obviously he (Jamieson) was excited – and that’s actually a compliment to Vaibhav. The way people celebrate after getting him out shows how big the wicket is, so maybe that’s a compliment to him,” Rathour said at the post-match press conference.
‘NEVER BEEN SO AFRAID OF A 15-YEAR-OLD CHILD’
Responding to Sooryavanshi’s wicket, Jamieson said he had never been so scared by a 15-year-old in his life.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared of a 15-year-old in my life. But yeah, we obviously did some planning to get into the game and it’s nice that it paid off,” Jamieson said.
This was probably the biggest compliment Sooryavanshi could have received at this point in his career. Sooryavanshi has 404 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 237.64. He has already hit 35 boundaries and 37 sixes this season.
He has already hit the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood for sixes and established himself as a big threat for many teams in the league.
