US-Iran War LIVE Update: US Launches Second Wave of Strikes, Trump Considers Expanding Military Operations | Today’s news
The United States (US) launched two new waves of strikes, “targeting Iranian military capabilities used to threaten vessels passing freely through the Strait of Hormuz.” It said an unloaded oil tanker that was trying to sail towards an Iranian port in the Arabian Gulf was “knocked out”.
US President Donald Trump has reportedly said he will expand military strikes on Iran to power plants and bridges if Tehran does not return to talks, and warned in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday that attacks would intensify next week.
Meanwhile, Iran’s military said on Wednesday it would retaliate after a US strike on one of its barracks in southeastern Iran, which it said killed seven soldiers.
Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Hussein Mohebbi said, according to Iran International, that Iranian operations are currently focused on destroying US offensive infrastructure in the region and warned that more steps would follow.
Iran currently has no plans to negotiate, a State Department spokesman said, adding that Tehran would not abide by any deal if the US “breached its commitments.”
Late Wednesday evening local time, explosions were heard in several areas across Iran, including the port city of Bandar Abbas and the southern cities of Ahvaz and Chabahar, media there said.
Is the Strait of Hormuz open? Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on July 15 that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States ended its “acts of aggression,” warning that other regional oil export routes could also be targeted.
