Marco Rubio in India LIVE: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday after arriving on his first official visit to India – a trip aimed at reshaping bilateral relations that have faced headwinds since mid-last year.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am pleased to receive US Secretary of State Mr. Marco Rubio. We discussed continued progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security. India and the United States will continue to work closely together for the global good.”
The meeting was attended by S. Jaishankar, Ajit Doval, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and US Deputy Secretary of State Allison Hooker.
US officials described the discussions as “productive”, with Ambassador Gor noting that both countries continue to work towards a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
The US Secretary of State arrived in Calcutta this morning and before flying to the national capital visited the Mother House – the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity of Saint Teresa.

Talks between Jaishankar and Rubio are likely to be dominated by ways to strengthen Indo-US ties in energy, trade, investment, critical technology and people-to-people exchanges, people familiar with the matter told PTI.
The two sides are also expected to discuss the crisis in West Asia and its economic impact, including energy supplies, they said.
Rubio’s trip to India comes more than five weeks after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made a three-day visit to Washington DC aimed at stabilizing ties after a period of uncertainty and tension. (PTI)

US Ambassador Sergio Gor, while welcoming the foreign minister, outlined a forward-looking program aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. He highlighted the upcoming meeting of the Quad foreign ministers and Washington’s focus on implementing President Donald Trump’s strategic vision for a stronger US-India partnership.
On Sunday, Rubio is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Jaishankar and attend Independence Day celebrations at the US Embassy. The foreign minister will travel to Agra and Jaipur on Monday before returning to Delhi on Tuesday morning for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
