PM Modi tells ministers to push for alternative energy sources amid Iran war; prioritize reforms of the new generation | Today’s news

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told his Council of Ministers to set a target of 2047 to make people’s lives more comfortable by then with various reform initiatives, news agency PTI reported.

In a meeting of the Council of Ministers that lasted for about three-and-a-half hours, the Prime Minister said that maximum emphasis should be given on next-generation reforms so that the country can achieve all-round development by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence.

During the meeting, PM Modi gave a broad overview of reform initiatives through which the country will develop by 2047, news agency PTI reported.

Prime Minister Modi told the ministers that their aim and objective should always be to bring comfort to people’s lives and make it “easy to live” for people. He also said that there should not be any interference in people’s lives, sources told PTI.

First such meeting in a year

The meeting with the Council of Ministers, which focused on steps to ease power outages in the wake of the war in West Asia, took place hours after Prime Minister Modi returned from his five-nation tour. The prime minister also urged ministers to explore alternative sources of energy amid the Iran war and subsequent blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, an Indian Express report said.

All Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State (Independent) and Ministers of State attended the meeting. This was the first meeting of the Council of Ministers this year.

The prime minister told the ministers to take all possible steps to ensure that the people get maximum benefit from the government’s welfare schemes. He said it was time to look forward and not dwell on what was done in the past.

PM Modi noted that while the government has been in power since 2014, in 2026 it must focus on future goals and achievements. He advised ministers to remain focused on governance and delivery, sources said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that there should be no dependency in government work.

Jaishankar made a presentation

During the meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave a presentation on Modi’s just-concluded foreign visit, during which the Prime Minister visited five countries – UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.

As many as nine secretaries made presentations on the initiatives and performance of their respective ministries and departments. Several of them showcased the work done in the last two years of the Modi government’s third term.

Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan also made a presentation on the government’s overall reform initiatives and other people-centric measures.

Niti Aayog member Rajiv Gauba also made a presentation.

The prime minister had earlier outlined his government’s reform priorities for the next decade, saying his government’s “Reform Express” had delivered systemic transformation and benefited ordinary citizens in significant ways.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers comes after the BJP’s massive success in the recently held assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, besides re-forming the NDA government in Puducherry.

This is a time to look forward, not dwell on what has been done in the past.

The Prime Minister convenes a meeting of the entire Council of Ministers from time to time to discuss key policy and governance issues.
