Sirens to sound in Bahrain, Interior Ministry says
Bahrain’s interior ministry said Monday (local time) that air raid sirens sounded in the country as the United States and Iran traded fresh strikes. In a statement on X, the Interior Ministry said: “The siren has been activated,” adding that citizens and residents were advised to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place. The US embassy in the capital, Manama, said it “has information indicating that Iran may be seeking to target unspecified locations in central Manama”. Bahrain, which hosts the US Fifth Fleet, has been targeted by Iran in recent days. Kuwait and Bahrain, which host US military installations, have borne the brunt of Iran’s attacks on its Gulf neighbors since the resumption of hostilities this month despite a ceasefire and memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
US launches more airstrikes against Iran
Early on Monday, the US announced more airstrikes on Iran after announcing the death of another US military member, while Iran fired missiles towards Jordan that risked spreading the conflict to neighboring Israel. The two sides have been slowly edging towards all-out war after an interim agreement meant to permanently end the conflict collapsed while shipping in the Strait of Hormuz largely ground to a halt. Both sides have targeted civilian infrastructure that millions of people rely on.
The US military has previously said its strikes targeted Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in retaliation for the killing of soldiers in Jordan. One service member was missing after that attack, and a new military statement said “unidentified remains” were found on Sunday and were being examined. 17 American service members have been killed since the start of the war.
UKMTO says another ship has caught fire in Hormuz, near Oman
The British military organization United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Monday that a ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman.
