
The US Embassy in India has shared President Donald Trump’s praise for India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as US-Indian negotiators work to resolve disputes over an elusive trade deal.
Trump praised India as one of the oldest civilizations in the world, calling it a “wonderful country” and a key strategic partner for the United States in the Indo-Pacific region. The Prime Minister also called Modi a “great friend”.
It read: “India is home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is a wonderful country and an important strategic partner of America in the Indo-Pacific region. We have a great friend in PM Modi.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Donald Trump on December 11 to review India-US relations and vowed to continue working together for global peace, stability and prosperity.
Assessing the progress made in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, critical technology, energy, defense and security.
Narendra Modi, who joined X after his phone call with Donald Trump, said, “He had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments.”
“India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity,” the Prime Minister added. They also agreed on close cooperation in solving common challenges and promoting common interests.
both PM Modi and Trump expressed satisfaction over the continued strengthening of ties between the two countries. They stressed the need to maintain momentum in efforts to boost bilateral trade, especially as India and the US continue ongoing trade negotiations.
“The Prime Minister and President Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in our joint efforts to strengthen bilateral trade,” the statement said.
Will Trump visit India next year?
In early November, Donald Trump praised the Indian prime minister, calling him a “great person” and a “friend”. He also hinted he might visit India next year as part of ongoing efforts to boost trade ties between the two nations after his administration imposed 50 percent tariffs on imports from New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters at the White House after announcing a new deal to lower the price of weight loss drugs, Trump said his talks with Prime Minister Modi were “going great.”

“For the most part, (Prime Minister Modi) stopped buying from Russia. And he’s a friend of mine and we talk. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a great guy. He’s a friend of mine and we talk and he wants me to go. We’ll work it out, I’ll go… Prime Minister Modi is a great guy and I’ll go,” Trump said.
Asked directly if he plans to travel to India next year, Trump said: “It could be, yes.
