The nuclear variant

About 35% of the 10,022 survey respondents in 207 cities expressed a preference for nuclear families, and the traditional option of living with married parents found slightly fewer takers. But the preference for nuclear families was heavily skewed towards women, with 45% saying so compared to just 26% of men. In fact, 39% of men believed that couples should live with their married parents, compared to only 24% of women. (About 10–12% of both men and women said they would prefer to live with the wife’s parents.) In South India, as many as 56% of women chose nuclear families, and 35% of men agreed.
