Ten central trade unions (CTUs) and sectoral federations have decided to call for nationwide direct action, including a general strike in February 2026, against the Union government’s decision to implement the four labor codes. CTU said in a statement here on Tuesday that the date of the strike will be specified at a meeting scheduled for December 22.
ČTÚ stated that the fighting will continue until the four labor codes are withdrawn. The statement added that there was a widespread immediate reaction of opposition to the labor code, and that on November 26, thousands of workers took part in the protest action. “The CTU will intensify the campaign among the working class against the labor codes, expose the false propaganda of the government and the corporate media serving the employer classes and resist any attempt to impose the codes on the working class,” the statement said, adding that they will coordinate with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha to fight against the Seeds Bill and the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025.
“There is unprecedented false propaganda about the so-called ‘benefits’ of labor laws for workers, including mass advertisements and paid news and articles supporting them, indicating panic among the government administration and the ruling classes. There is total chaos in the labor ministries and the courts,” they said.
ČTÚ also demanded a judicial inquiry into the delay and cancellation of Indigo flights, saying the government should learn from this experience and immediately stop the hasty privatization moves, especially in strategic sectors such as power, oil, railways, defence, telecom and banking.
