AAM boss (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal on 28th August accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of caused farmers to devastate betrayal by giving up import duties on American cotton, allegedly under pressure from US President Donald Trump.
Kejriwal’s notes came hours after the Narendra Modi-Led Government extended the liberation from to imports of brutal cotton and agriculture to 31 December 2025. The extension came the day after 50 % of the tariffs came into force.
Kejriwal, a former Chief Minister in Delhi, said that Narendra Modi’s government has prolonged surrender since the beginning of the deadline of 30th September to 31 December and ensured that US cotton – 15–20 % cheaper than Indian production – would tear before Indian farmers brought Harvest to Mandis.
Kejriwal warned that the textile industry would already buy its supplies, so Indian farmers leave no choice but to sell their cotton at discarded prices.
“The Modi government has given up the duties of American cotton by December 31. Modi has committed it with massive betrayal of farmers. Modi bowed to Trump completely. This is not only dangerous for farmers, industries and employment, but also an attack on 140 Crore Indians,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal demanded that the government Modi immediately set out an order that eliminated 11 % duty on American cotton and restored it to protect Indian farmers.
According to the Ministry of Finance, it has now been expanded to include an import relief, which was originally announced for the period between 19 August and September 30, now extended to cover the last three months of the year. Before the exception, the import of cotton to India attracted a combined obligation around 11 percent.
“Why does Modi bow it to Trump? The country wants to know what his urge is? The more you bow to Trump, the more they force you to bow.
Later, addressing a press conference, lined with the president of the Dilli Saurabh Bharadwaj and the leader of the Delhi opposition (LOP) atishi, killed the Union’s government for adopting a decision in “complete secrecy”.
“In the last days, under President Trump, PM Modi has decided to give up import duties on cotton coming from the United States between 19 August to 30 September. Then, on August 28, the central government went a step further and surrendered to Trump by prolonging this surrender to 31 December.
Kejriwal noted that while the SMP was £7,000 for quintal, farmers were unable to sell their cotton for this speed and were forced to eventually to less than less than £6 000 to the end of the season. “This year, it will not be available,” he warned. He said that Lakhs and Crores of farmers and their family members would be influenced across the country, with the worst affected by farmers in Gujarate, Visarbha, Telangana and Pandjab, he said.
The boss of AAP criticized Prime Minister Modi at what he called Trump’s bullying tactics and choosing tariffs in India.
“The US deposited 50 percent of tariffs in India. What should India do? We should have increased the obligation to American cotton from 11 percent to 50 %. That’s exactly what other countries did,” Kejriwal said.
