Union Cabinet approves ₹2,533 crore office and housing projects for central employees in Amaravati

In a major boost to the development of Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (June 10, 2026) approved two major infrastructure projects of the central government with a revised combined estimated cost of over ₹2,533 crore.

The approved projects include Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) and General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA), which are aimed at creating modern office and residential infrastructure for Central Government employees in Amaravati.

As per the cabinet decision, the CGGPOA project will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹ 1,299.08 crore with a total built-up area of ​​23.25 million square feet. The project is to provide office space for various central government departments and agencies operating in the capital region.

The GPRA project to provide residential facilities for government employees has been approved at an estimated cost of ₹1,234.91 crore. The apartment complex will have a built-up area of ​​31.30 thousand square feet and is expected to include modern civic and community amenities.

The projects were planned with a strong focus on sustainability and green infrastructure. The buildings will have a minimum GRIHA 4-star rating, comply with the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024 standards and incorporate energy efficient and green design elements.

The Cabinet also focused on inclusive development and said that the proposed campuses will be barrier-free and Divyangjan (Persons with Disabilities) accessible. The projects will also include modern civic and community amenities to improve the quality of life of residents and employees.

The approval is expected to accelerate the growth of Amaravati as an administrative center while strengthening the presence of central government institutions in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. The decision marks another significant step in the ongoing development of Amaravati as a planned, sustainable and inclusive city.

Reacting to the development, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar told The Hindu that it shows the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to the development of the state capital Amaravati.
