Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre on Sunday said it was ironic that a community that had worked for social justice in society was now seeking justice.

“There are poor families in the community like any other community. They too should get justice. The Sharans worked for equality in the society and supported every community through education and food,” he said during the Veerashaiva-Lingayat Dharma Samrakshana convention here.

However, he said it was unfortunate that currently the community had to seek justice. “Some are sowing seeds of hatred between communities for their selfish gains,” he said, calling Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who was also present, secular minded.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khandre also said that the Anubhava Mantapa coming up at a cost of ₹750 crore at Basavakalyan would be ready by the end of next year.

A number of seers and political leaders from the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community were present.
