Ladakh festival kicks off: Historic women’s polo match focuses on empowerment

The three-day Ladakh festival began with cultural celebrations showcasing the heritage of the region. The highlight of the opening day was the women’s polo exhibition match organized by the Ladakh Authority. The match was held at the historic Ladakh Horse Polo Ground, where polo was played during the era of Maharaja Gulab Singh and Maharaja Ranbir Singh. The match, with female riders from different parts of the country playing according to centuries-old rules, attracted visitors, including international tourists from Dubai, who appreciated the passion of the players and hailed the event as a major step towards women’s empowerment.
