Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenky rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin offering a three -day ceasefire to match the Russian celebrations of the 9th World War victory and call it a “theater performance” rather than a serious step towards peace.
“It is a theater performance on his part,” Zelsky told a small group of journalists. “Because in two or three days it is impossible to develop a plan for the next steps to end the war.”
Kyiv suggested a 30 -day ceasefire
He reiterated that Ukraine was ready for a complete and permanent ceasefire, not for a temporary break that would serve symbolic events in Moscow.
“Let’s be honest – you can’t agree on something serious in three, five or seven days,” he said. “It looks extremely. So Putin’s guests on Red Square feel comfortable and safe.”
The Kremlin previously rejected a joint proposal from Kiev and Washington for an unconditional 30 -day ceasefire made in March. Since then, Putin has offered a small movement to end the war, now in the third year.
Russia accuses Ukraine of endangering the celebrations of 9 May
The Zelenka remarks were attracted by sharp rebukes from Moscow. A spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova accused him of threatening civilians who participated in the monuments of 9 May.
“There is a risk of the physical security of veterans who will come to the shows and celebrations of the Holy Day,” Zakharova said. “His statement … of course there is a direct threat.”
He rejected the idea that Ukraine would guarantee the security of foreign dignitaries who visit Russia for a show. “Our position is very simple to all countries that have traveled or traveling to Russia on May 9 – we cannot take responsibility for what is happening in the Russian Federation,” he said.
“They ensure your security,” he added, warning that Russia “can take different steps such as arson, explosion, etc. and then blame us.”
The fight continues in spite of the direct speech
Despite the interview about the ceasefire, the fighting continued on several fronts. Russian shelling killed two people in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk on Saturday and left the drones to Kherson one person dead. Russia, in turn, accused Ukraine of striking neostorossiysk and injured five.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that the three -day ceasefire offer was a test of the Kyiv obligation to Peace. “This is a test to assess Kyiv readiness for long -term and sustainable peace,” he said.
Greenly says Trump “sees things differently”
He also revealed new details about his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump on the edge of the funeral of Pope Francis in the Vatican. It was their first meeting since the tense exchange on the camera in the White House in February.
“We had the best conversation of all those who preceded it,” Zelsky said. “I am convinced that after our meeting in the Vatican, President Trump began to look at things a little differently.”
He noted greenly that both leaders agreed that the 30 -day ceasefire would be the right first step towards ending the conflict. He also discussed the sanctions and joint investment fund of critical minerals in the US-Ukraine, which now has a 3-3 division between the two nations.
