Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) slammed the TVK-led government for allegedly trying to “paralyze” the functioning of the High Level Committee on Union-State Relations, headed by former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph.

The committee was constituted during the previous DMK government led by MK Stalin. In a post on X, Mr. Udhayanidhi, who heads the DMK’s youth wing, said there were reports that the committee was facing problems in functioning due to lack of staff.

This “fake government” created a situation where researchers and research scholars who were working on the second report of the Committee on State Autonomy were unable to continue their work, Mr. Udhayanidhi alleged.

“The TVK government, which is afraid to talk about or fight for state rights, shamefully trembles with fear even at the prospect of conducting a study on them and paralyzes the Commission. Realizing that mere hanging of reels cannot establish state autonomy, it must ensure that the High Level Committee on Union-State Relations functions without any interruption,” he added.
