Deep depression to bring heavy rain over central and eastern India | Today’s news
A deep depression over the central west and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to cross the north coast of Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, near Kalingapatnam, by the night of 23 September and bring heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Chhatteor, Indian Division.
The system is likely to produce heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Odisha and South Chhattisgarh on September 24.
Rainfall is expected to spread across central and eastern India in the coming days. Chhattisgarh is likely to experience moderate to widespread rainfall from 24 to 29 September, East Madhya Pradesh from 24 to 28 September and Vidarbha from 24 to 28 September. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are also likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during this period.
East India, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand are forecast to experience moderate to widespread rainfall from 24 to 26 September, while Bihar is likely to experience similar conditions from 24 to 27 September. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive widespread rainfall from September 24 to 27.
The effects of the weather system will extend to northwest India. East Rajasthan is likely to experience moderate to widespread rainfall from September 24-27, followed by Uttarakhand from September 26-28. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas are forecast to receive widespread rainfall on September 28-29.

The IMD has predicted isolated rainfall in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab from September 25 to 29. Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive rain towards the end of the period, especially on 28-29 September, while isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over western Rajasthan during 24-29 September.
West India, Konkan and Goa and Marathawada are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on 24 September, followed by isolated to scattered rainfall till 29 September. Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra are expected to receive isolated rainfall during the same period.
South Peninsular India will also remain wet. Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are likely to experience moderate to widespread rainfall from September 24-26, while coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and coastal Karnataka are expected to witness similar conditions from September 24-25.
According to the forecast, Telangana will receive fairly extensive to extensive rainfall from September 24 to 29. North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka are likely to experience widespread rain on September 23, followed by isolated to scattered showers till September 29.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, entire Delhi and some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, the IMD said today. The southwest monsoon season brought cumulative rainfall of 706.9 mm from 1 June to 22 September, 15% below normal of 832.4 mm.
