Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday (June 27, 2026) called for ‘BJP-mukt’ Ram and attacked the BJP, alleging that the saffron party has betrayed Hindus and Hindutva. He was talking about the alleged allegations of donation scam at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
“There was an emotionally charged environment (on the Ram Mandir issue). Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray himself toured the state asking for people’s contribution. What happened to the money provided by Shiv Sena? Now money, gold and silver are being stolen from Ram Mandir. They (BJP) betrayed Hindus in Yavattvamal on the first day of their Hinduism three-day tour.
Appeal to voters
“True Hindutva teaches humanity. We reject your (BJP) Hindutva of looting temples. We want ‘BJP-mukt Ram’ and Shiv Sena (UBT) to lead such protests,” he said. Appealing to the people of Maharashtra, he said voters must question not only the defecting MPs but also the BJP, which wanted to do away with the opposition. “This is Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar Maharashtra. Will he stand against them and ask them questions?” he asked.
Describing the BJP as the ‘Pakistan Janata Party’, he said the party had betrayed not only its allies but also Lord Ram. Criticizing the National Party over the government’s stance that a passport is not a proof of citizenship, he questioned whether BJP membership was the only proof of citizenship. “This is not the Bhartiya Janata Party. If it is behaving in this way, we are concerned whether it is the Pakistan Janata Party,” he said.
When asked about the discussion with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he had earlier mocked journalists. Mr. Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray traveled to Nagpur on the same flight on June 26, leading to political speculation. “We had a high-level discussion. The details of the meeting will be released soon,” he said with a laugh.
