
A pile-up involving three KSRTC buses near Malavalli in Mandya district resulted in the death of two persons while many passengers were injured on Sunday evening.
The accident took place on National Highway 948 near Bachanahalli and the condition of 10 injured is said to be critical.
According to the police, the accident occurred when a KSRTC bus from Kollegal heading towards Bengaluru lost control after a tire burst and collided with another bus coming from the opposite direction. A third bus on the same stretch of road then drove into the pile.
The local people immediately alerted the police and the injured were taken to the taluk hospital. Those with severe injuries were taken to Mysuru and Mandya. The impact was such that the front of the vehicles was reduced to a mass of crushed metal.
The movement of vehicles on the highway was affected for almost an hour. Senior police officials visited the spot.
