A tense situation prevailed in Ballari on Saturday after the severed heads of two cows were found near the 9th cross on Kappagallu Road, sparking protests by BJP workers, members of Hindu organizations and local residents.
The protesters at the site blocked the road and sat on a dharna, raising slogans demanding protection of cattle and denouncing the state government. They urged the police to immediately identify and arrest those responsible for the incident and initiate strict legal action against them.
Police officers, including Gandhinagar Circle Inspector Ravichandra and Ballari Deputy Superintendent of Police Govindaraju V, rushed to the spot along with personnel and conducted a preliminary investigation. Police officers tried to pacify the protesters and prevent the situation from escalating. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Later, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) visited the site and examined the remains. The team collected evidence and other material relevant to the investigation.
Speaking to reporters, BJP president Anil Kumar Moka condemned the incident and said the heads of the slain cows were found stuffed in a bag and dumped on the roadside. He alleged that despite information provided by BJP workers about cattle being transported for slaughter in recent months, only a few animals were rescued while others were allegedly allowed to be slaughtered.
Former minister B. Sriramulu and MLA for Gangavathi Gali Janardhana Reddy later visited the protest site and expressed concern over the incident. They discussed with the Deputy Inspector of Police and urged the authorities to ensure that the culprits are arrested at the earliest. They also emphasized that incidents of this nature should not be allowed to happen again.
