The cows are sent to temples throughout India to the daily “GO Puja” under the “Gudiko Gomata” scheme. So far, cows and calves have been distributed free of charge to 195 temples across the country, said J. Shyamala Rao, Executive Director (EO) of Tirumal Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
Sri Krishna Janmashtami (Gokulashtami) at Sri Venkateswaro Gosamshanashla in Tirupati (16th August) took part. GO Puja also appeared and later witnessed cultural programs such as Annamacharya Sankeertan, Bhajan, Kolaatam and Harikath.
On this occasion, he emphasized the importance of cow protection and said that there are now 2,789 animals in Gosamshalala – including 1,827 cows, 962 bulls, seven elephants and five horses.
Go Puja is done daily in Tirumala, Tirupati and Tiruchanur Goshalas and Sapta Go Pradakshina Mandiram in Alipiri. Milk, cottage cheese, butter and ghee from Goshalas are used in rituals and sub -temples at Tirumal Srivari, as well as distributed to centers and captains of Annoprasadam.
The EO also said: “Through the technology of embryos transmission, developed with the Veterinary University of Sri Venkateswar, 47 Superior Sahiwal calves was produced.
“The plans are to add another 500 heads of the original cattle breeds (GIR, Kankrej, Tharparkar and Red Sindhi) with the public participation. In investment of 12.25 Crore, TTD has set up high quality feed for native breeds,” he added.
GOSALA experts provide advice on health, nutrition, breeding and good conditions of cattle, said TTD official.
