US President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize amid US pressure for peace talks to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president linked to a Fox News article from August that was titled “President of Peace”: Trump bid for Nobel Prize amid talks to end Russia-Ukraine war — as House Reps. Andy Ogles of Tennessee and Marlin Stutzman — urged the Nobel committee to give Trump’s Peace Prize the most serious consideration.
Trump, who reiterated his claim that he has resolved several wars since returning to office in January, re-shared the post as the Trump administration is reportedly quietly crafting a new peace plan with Russia to end its war with Ukraine.
The representative said in the letter that Trump’s decisive leadership in securing landmark diplomatic agreements, de-escalating global conflicts and actively promoting peaceful solutions to some of the world’s most entrenched disputes has led and continues to lead to a more peaceful world.
This year, the president, who has repeatedly insisted that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, missed his chance as it was won by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
Before announcing the peace prize, Trump said that not winning the Nobel Prize would be a great insult to our country. “I’ll tell you. I don’t want it, I want the country to get it.”
A few months ago, Trump was also nominated by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during his trip to the country. While the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told the US President that she is nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report citing sources, in order to end the war, the US has signaled to President Zelensky that Ukraine must accept a framework proposed by the US with Russia, which proposes that Kiev give up territory and some weapons.
Two people familiar with the matter told the agency that the proposals included, among other things, reducing the size of Ukraine’s armed forces. Washington wants Kyiv to accept the main points.
The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv said the U.S. delegation, led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, is in Kyiv on a “fact-finding mission” and includes Army Chief of Staff General Randy George. The delegation will meet with Zelensky on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy held talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan during discussions on US proposals for peace terms.
