Tomin J. Thachankary shifted to the hospital block of the Poojappura Central Jail

Retired Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin J. Thachankary, convicted by the Kottayam vigilance court in the disproportionate assets case, was on Friday shifted to the hospital block of the Poojappura Central Jail after he complained of restlessness.

He was brought to the Central Prison on Thursday evening, shortly after the sentencing. After a medical examination, it was decided that the ex-policeman would be kept for observation in the hospital block.

According to sources, Mr. Thachankary’s health condition remains stable, with the current scenario not requiring his transfer to the General Hospital or Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital.

He was sentenced to four years in prison and fined ₹30.84 lakh after being found guilty of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income between 1 January 2003 and 7 July 2007.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau found that he had amassed assets worth ₹64 crore, which exceeded his known sources of income.
