An almost 4-year-old boy fell into a 220-feet-deep and nine-inch-wide borehole in Ambala’s Dhanora village on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) while carrying food for his father at the workplace.

Ambala Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomer informed the media at the spot that the child was playing nearby when he slipped into the well. “He came here with food for his father, who was working. While playing, the child fell into the well,” Mr. Tomer said. The diameter of the well is around nine inches.

Rescue teams were rushed to the spot soon after receiving information in the morning. “Emergency teams have been dispatched immediately. Rescue operations are underway. Army and NDRF teams have also arrived just now. NDRF is here with all their specialized equipment,” he told DC reporters. He added that the army teams have also brought heavy equipment, which will be used if necessary.

A team of doctors is on site and medical examinations of family members are underway. “Our aim is to save the child safely,” Mr Tomer said.

The DC said the well belonged to a neighbor and remained uncovered. “The SHO concerned has been directed to take necessary action. It is negligence – the well has remained open,” he said.

On a camera feed lowered into the borehole, Mr Tomer said it was too early to comment. “At this point, it’s too early to say anything about the camera feed. We’re making every effort,” he said.

The rescue operation is underway. Police officers are present at the scene.
