
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Telangana on April 16. The Met office has issued a yellow alert for these states, with Odisha and Andhra Pradesh joining the list in the coming days.
In its weather bulletin dated April 15, the IMD said: “Heat wave conditions very likely over isolated pockets of East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and North Interior Karnataka during 15-19; Chhattisgarh and Telangana during 16-19; West Madhya Pradesh and Odisha during 17-19 during 16-18 April;
The Meteorological Department has predicted a gradual increase in maximum temperatures of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over northwest India till April 18. Additionally, people living in India’s central region can expect a gradual rise in maximum temperatures of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius until April 20.
Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in isolated pockets in the following areas:
- In Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till April 21
- In coastal Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam till April 17
- In Gujarat till April 18
- In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala till April 19
- On April 16 and 19 in Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh

According to the Meteorological Department, a new weak western disturbance is likely to hit the western Himalaya region from the night of April 16. Regarding the prevailing weather conditions, the IMD has predicted, “Scattered to Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during 16-19 17-19 Uttarakhand on April 17.”
While a thunderstorm is likely over Gangetic West Bengal today with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph and gusts of up to 70 kmph, parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh may expect hail tomorrow.

Residents of the national capital can expect “mainly clear skies” today, which should become partly cloudy as the day progresses. The maximum temperature is expected to be noticeably above normal by about 3.1°C to 5.0°C and settle between 39°C to 41°C.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be close to normal around 20°C to 22°C.
