Today’s earthquake: A massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Mindanao region of the southern Philippines today, the German Geosciences Research Center said, prompting tsunami warnings in the region as well as in Malaysia. Tsunami waves are possible in the next three hours along some coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, Palau, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

There are no reports of casualties from the earthquake in the Philippines.

According to the report, the epicenter was located 24.7 km west-southwest of Burias, Philippines at a depth of 35 km. She struck at 7:37 a.m. local time.
