An adult tiger was found dead on National Highway (NH) 565 near Sirigiripad section of VP South Forest Range in Markapur Division on Tuesday morning. He was allegedly killed by an unidentified vehicle.
According to Markapur Tiger Project officials, Sirigiripad Divisional Forest Officer P. Mahesh Babu received the information and went to the spot to protect the carcass. He also informed the Vice President South Forest Range Officer and Deputy Director of Markapur Project Tiger who went to the spot with veterinary doctors.
Based on the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a post-mortem was conducted and it was concluded that the tiger died after being hit by a vehicle. They also cremated the body as per NTCA SOP.
“A case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) and investigation is on,” Mohammad Abdul Rawoof Shaik, deputy director of Markapur Project Tiger, said in a statement.
