At the beginning of this week and Sunday (June 15, 2025), three inhabitants of West Bengal working in Mumbai were reportedly pushed into the country and reportedly pushed into Bangladesh (BSF) on Sunday (June 15, 2025).
Minajul Sheikh, resident of Beldang in the district of Murshidabad, said Hindu that his brother Minarul Sheikh was picked up from Bombai, where he worked and subsequently forced to Bangladesh.
“We got a call from one of the men in the group that Minarul was in Bangladesh. We approached the police at Beldang police station and the police assured us that they would return soon,” said Minajul.
Not only Minarul Sheikh, at least two other workers were pushed into Bangladesh. Three workers – Minraul Sheikh and Nizamuddin Sheikh of Murshidabad and Mostafa Kamal Sheikh of Purba Bardhan – also sent the video to their relatives, where they can be heard in front of the main Minister Mamata Baerjee and other public representatives to ensure their return to India.
After the government of West Bengal’s matter, the workers were repatriated on Sunday afternoon to India across the Mekliganj border in Bangladesh. The Congress of Trinamool Rajya Sabha and the Chairman of the Social Care Council for Migrants West Bengal Samirul Samirul Islam said that when workers picked up the police in Mumbai, she provided all necessary documents by the state government.
“What happened is very unfortunate and illegal. They are India citizens and cannot push them illegally into Bangladesh,” Mr. Islam said.
The response to the police station Mekliganj Mani Bhusan Sarkar said that after receiving information from police stations in Murshidabad and Bardhaman about Indian nationals in Bangladesh, BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh reported.
“These three men were handed over to us (Mekhliganj police station) after a flag meeting on the border,” the officer said. According to sources, these three men were pushed into Bangladesh somewhere along the border of the northern Bengal and Bangladesh on Friday evening.
Over the past few months, India has “pushed” the undocumented Bangladesh migrants detained across the country across the eastern border. Bangladesh’s border guard (BGB) expressed concern to India by “pushing” individuals across the border, especially non -documented migrants.
There is no official word about “pushing back” from BSF. While “pushing back” of Bangladesh nationals came to the forefront in Assam and Tripura, nationals of West Bengal were pushed into Bangladesh on this occasion.
