Kerala will not take an anti-worker stance while introducing new labor laws, said Labor Minister V. Sivankutty.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the minister said that the government is carefully scrutinizing the four labor codes announced by the Union government on Friday. “The state government will not allow any move that will weaken the state’s labor relations and union rights,” he said.
The simplification of labor law should help create an environment favorable to industry. They should help improve the living standards of workers. According to him, the government would emphasize better wages, health care, social security and decent working conditions.
The Minister stated that negotiations will be held with important trade unions and industry representatives on the creation of state rules for the new Labor Code. Provisions would be made in the rules to ensure that existing or new laws do not adversely affect the labor rights or welfare of workers in the state.
The government, he stressed, is committed to ensuring that every worker in the state is protected.
