The Samiti submits a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding an AIIMS for Raichur

The Kalyana Karnataka Horata Samiti has renewed its demand for the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raichur and urged the Center to prioritize the long-term healthcare needs of the backward region.

A delegation led by the organization’s founder-president Lakshman Dasti submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Deputy Commissioner Kalaburagi Mohammad Ikram Shariff.

The organization claimed that Raichur, one of the most backward districts in the Kalyana region of Karnataka, despite enjoying a special constitutional status under Article 371(J), continued to need a first-class health facility.

It argued that the district’s development challenges and healthcare requirements make it a strong contender for AIIMS.

Members of the Samiti recalled that activists and several organizations from the region had been campaigning for the project for several years. They noted that continuous agitation, including indefinite satyagraha, was going on to support the demand.

The memorandum also referred to the earlier representations made by the elected representatives to the Union Government. Delegations from the region, including ministers, MPs and MLAs, sought central approval for the project on various occasions.

The state government also reportedly supported the proposal and urged the Center to consider Raichur for setting up the premier institution.

Expressing disappointment over the delay, the Samiti said Kalyana Karnataka continues to lag behind in infrastructure and institutional investment despite its special status.

Mr. Dasti urged the Union Government to ensure balanced regional development by approving the AIIMS project for Raichur.
