
The three-day Sahyadri Ecology Summit jointly organized by the Wayanad Prakruthi Samrakshana Samiti and the Hume Center for Ecology, focusing on the critical ecological challenges facing the Western Ghats and other regions, will begin at Thrikkaipetta Bamboo Grove in Wayanad district on Saturday (January 24).
Kumar Kalanand Mani, Director, Goa Peace Foundation, will inaugurate the summit which will bring together environmental activists, scientists, subject matter experts and representatives of environmental organizations from all districts of Kerala along with delegates from neighboring states.
According to the organizers, several prominent environmentalists and researchers, including Mahendra Vyas, a former Supreme Court-appointed member of the Central Empowered Committee on Forestry and Wildlife; Praveen Bhargav, former member of the National Wildlife Board; Prakriti Srivastava, Former Chief Wildlife Warden; and CS Easa, former Director, Kerala Forest Research Institute, are scheduled to deliver papers at the event.
The sessions will be moderated by experts from various leading institutions and universities, including Kerala Forest Research Institute and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies. Key topics to be discussed at the summit include degradation and restoration of the Western Ghats, rapidly evolving environmental laws in India, development paradigms, coastal ecosystem, human-wildlife conflict and water-related disasters.
