Indian Railways is proposed to turn into a comprehensive logistics player to start the service for freight and land from the door and provides its customers with flexibility in moving consignments from warehouses to the final point of delivery.
So far, railways have been considered to be carriers of goods, which also transports volume commodities such as coal, iron ore, steel, limestone and cement, with a small or negligible presence in the door to door to the door required.
As part of its Playbook logistics service, the railway launched three initiatives for door to door on Tuesday. The first initiative includes the conversion of Prolius goods into a sonic in Unnao, part of the Lucknow Division, into an integrated logistics center. This hub managed by Railway Entity Concor will serve the logistics needs of Kanpur and Lucknow. It will act as a distribution center for costs, including fertilizers, food grains, cement and tractors, while providing inventory management and fundamental connection of the first and last miles.
The second initiative is the opening of a secure train service of transit containers between Delhi and Kolkata, which aims to attract a time -sensitive cargo from the road to the railway. This service provides services from door and container, loading and unloading devices at both ends.
The third initiative is the start of parcel service for doors using parcel delivery of railways between Mumbai and Calcutta. This would take care of the movement of all kinds of goods, including small movements of land at households. The shipment in this service may also include lubricating oil, consumer duration and FMCG. The service will also provide freight storage devices in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Cheaper, faster than roads
According to the railway estimates, its service from door to door would be almost 7.5% cheaper than similar movement of goods by roads, and at the same time would also reduce the final delivery time by almost 30%.
“The services of Railways are the result of several experiments that have performed to understand the exact needs of customers. The railway initiative will help secure and costly effectively move and contribute to the national aspiration of the country’s overall logistics while promoting organic transport.”
He said that learning from these three services would help expand operations from door to door in the country and covered other economic nodes.
The Minister said that the railway ranks 3,000-4,000 km of new lines every year, which would ensure that both passengers and the goods of the national transporter move carelessly.
The aim of the packaging services of railways is also to capture the company from electronic trading players who are largely relying on the road network to move goods from warehouses to customers.
