US President Donald Trump said he had a “really great meeting” with Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing it as a breakthrough moment that strengthened ties between the two nations.
“There is tremendous respect between our two countries and that will only be strengthened by what just happened,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
China will resume large-scale purchases
Trump claimed that China had agreed to begin buying “huge amounts of soybeans, sorghum and other agricultural products.”
“Our farmers will be very happy!” he wrote, adding: “Farmers should immediately go and buy more land and bigger tractors.”
He said these agricultural purchases would strengthen America’s agricultural economy and mirror the trade actions seen during his first administration.
Negotiations on an energy agreement are underway
According to Trump, China has also agreed to buy US energy, including oil and gas, potentially from Alaska.
“There could be a very large transaction to buy oil and gas from the Great State of Alaska,” Trump said, naming Chris Wright and Doug Burgum as key figures in the talks.
Trump added that US and Chinese energy teams would meet to explore the details of the proposed deal.
Deal on rare earths and fentanyl
Trump said China would “continue to flow rare earths, critical minerals, magnets, etc., openly and freely.”
He also claimed that Beijing was committed to helping Washington fight the flow of fentanyl into the United States.
“They will help us end the fentanyl crisis,” he wrote.
Trump calls trip ‘historic’
Trump described his visit to Asia as “historic” and thanked leaders from several countries for their hospitality and cooperation.
He listed Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam among the countries that attended the dinner hosted by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
“Hundreds of billions of dollars are brought into our country because of them,” Trump said.
“Our nation is strong, respected and admired again, and the best is yet to come!”
Focus on prosperity and security
Trump concluded by saying that deals made with China “will provide prosperity and security for millions of Americans.”
He added that he was returning to Washington, DC after a tour of Asia.
