Quad, India’s first-of-its-kind food and beverage (F&B) airport, which opened in 2019 at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), is undergoing renovation.
The Quad is located in front of the Terminal-1 arrivals area of the airport and is a popular destination not only for passengers but also for other airport visitors.
In addition to F&B outlets and retail outlets, there was also The Arena, which hosted live sports screenings and entertainment shows.
“The Quad is something we are very proud of. We started it as an experiment, the first of its kind in the country and also one of the few of its kind in the world where the facility can be used by arriving passengers as well as non-passengers,” Pravat Paikray, Vice President (Commercial), Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) told The Hindu.
Mr Paikray added that the F&B and retail outlets at The Quad will double once it is fully renovated.
“The Quad is being redeveloped in a much bigger and much bigger way. The construction work has already started and we would double everything and we are trying to bring in new brands, new concepts and entertainment elements. It will open in phases soon,” added Mr Paikray.
He also said that another plaza similar to The Quad will come up at the airport’s Terminal-2, which will be opened in the next six months to one year.
Apart from The Quad, BIAL also plans to open F&B outlets and retail outlets near the Multi-Modal Transport Hub (MMTH), which is built to offer passengers and visitors seamless public transport options for traveling between Bengaluru city and the airport.
“We are also coming up with multiple outlets at MMTH which will include starbuck reserve, F&B microbrewery and retail outlets. All these stores are aligned with the metro, so once the metro-airport link is operational, we will be ready for all that,” he said.
The 58.19 km Namma Metro Blue Line, once operational, will connect Bengaluru’s south, southeast, east and north districts directly to the airport.
