82-year-old Bihar man visits bank to withdraw retirement pension, finds ₹759 million in account | Today’s news
A bizarre incident in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur grabbed public attention after an 82-year-old man claimed to have discovered a staggering ten-figure amount credited to his bank account when he visited the Common Service Center (CSC) on Sunday to collect his old-age pension. His disabled son’s account reflected a similarly enormous balance. However, the shocking figure later appeared to be the result of a technical glitch, which upon further investigation led to a very different reality.
According to an India Today report, the account belonged to Kameshwar Mishra, a poet who went to CSC to withdraw his social security pension.
The bills showed up ₹1500 crores together
After the pension was withdrawn, Mishra accompanied his disabled son, who is also a Social Security Pension Scheme beneficiary, to check the balance in their bank accounts. What they found amazed them.

According to an India Today report, Mishra’s account reflected a balance of Rs ₹759,69,51,951 (approx ₹759 million crowns). His son’s account also showed an unusually high amount, so the total balance in both accounts exceeded ₹1,500 million crowns.
The staggering numbers are said to have shocked the family and the CSC operator, prompting speculation that the balances may have been due to a banking or technical error.
Mishra is seeking an explanation from the authorities
Mishra said he was unable to understand how such a huge amount appeared in the accounts. He called on the bank and the concerned authorities to investigate the matter and determine the cause of the discrepancy.
He added that he raised the matter publicly so that officials could verify the balances and correct any error.

The exact cause of the unusually high balances has not yet been determined. While preliminary indications point to a possible technical or banking glitch in the system, no official explanation has yet been issued.
Meanwhile, a disturbing scene emerged from Odisha earlier this year where a man took the skeletal remains of his late sister to a bank after repeated attempts to access her savings proved unsuccessful. The incident took place on April 27 at Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block.
Jeetu Munda, 50, a resident of Dianali village, was trying to pull out ₹20,000 from the account of his elder sister Kalra Munda (56), who died on January 25 this year.

After the death of her husband and only son, Kalra returned to her parental home where she had a savings account and deposited money regularly. After her death, the family performed her last rites and buried her near their home.
In the weeks following her death, Jeetu visited the bank several times with his passbook and tried to withdraw money. He claimed that bank officials rejected his request and allegedly asked him to produce the account holder in person.
Explaining his actions, Jeetu said, “I visited the bank several times and the people there told me to bring the account holder to withdraw the money deposited in her name. Although I told them that she had died, they did not listen to me and insisted that I bring her to the bank. Out of frustration, I dug her grave and brought her skeletal remains as proof of her death.”
