The proceedings of the Telangana Assembly were adjourned the next day

Matters surrounding the “unparliamentary” language allegedly used by a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator against Telangana Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar and the “misbehaviour” of the police towards BRS legislators on Monday rocked the Legislative Assembly for the second day in a row on Tuesday (September 8, 2026).

When the House assembled for the day, BRS Deputy Leader T. Harish Rao held up placards demanding action against police officials allegedly indulging in the incident. The Chairman tried to assure the members that the issue was being investigated and that appropriate action would be initiated against the responsible staff after the report was submitted. However, the BRS members persisted in their demand even as Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu intervened and explained to the agitated members the steps initiated to get a full report on the incident.

“We have picked up on things. But BRS members did not even express their regret over their member’s abusive remarks against the Speaker despite knowing that swearing at the Speaker is against the rules of the House,” he told BRS members saying it is the Speaker’s office that protects the interests of members who cross party lines.

Additional Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar said he hoped the BRS members would apologize to the Speaker for the “disgraceful” comments made by their party member who abused Mr Prasad Kumar.

However, Mr. Harish Rao claimed that there was evidence in the form of video footage of “indecent” behavior by police personnel towards BRS women legislators. “Instead of taking action against the culprits, the government has actually registered cases against MLAs P. Sabita Indra Reddy, Sunita Lakshma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi,” he lamented, comparing the assembly to the “Kaurava Sabha” and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to Dussasana from the Mahabharata.

Growing impatient with the slogans, the lecturer lashed out at the BRS members and claimed, “I should be angry. Me and my mother were abused, not you,” he told the BRS members.

Throughout the episode, Minister Seethakka suspected a planned attempt, asking, “Why were women legislators pushed to the front? What about the attack by BRS members on police personnel?”

However, Mr. Harish Rao explained that the BRS member (MLC Tata Madhu) clarified in a written statement that his comments were not directed at the speaker and that he takes them back unconditionally if anyone is hurt by them. “We actually thought the legislative affairs minister would apologize for what happened on Monday,” he said.

The Deputy Floor Manager of BRS rushed to the Well of the House even as Mr. Sridhar Babu explained about the Government’s efforts to get a full report on the incident. Mr. Harish Rao was stopped from further progress by the marshals and joined by several other BRS legislators. The Speaker adjourned the meeting because there was a commotion in the Chamber.
